People remember 70% of what they see, but only about 30% of what they read. Emotion is what motivates people; they justify their feelings through logic, not the other way around. Odds are if you don't have a design that stands out or makes an impression, your marketing will blend in like camouflage- whether it's on the web, billboards, TV, radio or print. The challenge is to be memorable without alienating your target market by being excessive. What mood or personality are you creating?

These are the original pencil and colorized versions of the Monkeys logo. Jennie drew these while we were working at the hospital together in winter of 2003. 3 Monkeys was still little more than an idea at the time. I wanted a logo and company image that would represent the personalities of all three of the founding members, so Jennie created caricatures of the three of us as monkeys. (The monkey thing is a part of geek culture- as in "code monkey"- someone obsessed with writing programming code.) Line art, Flash fill on colorized version.

This elementary school photo of my grandmother was one of my earlier attempts at photo reconstruction in Photoshop. The original was badly damaged; cracks, folds and small tears were present throughout the picture. I scanned the original at a high resolution and went to work erasing the cracks, filling in the torn areas with color and removing any discoloration. Printed at high quality on good photo paper, the new version looks amazing next to the original. -BeLinda

Jennifer Watts designed the 3 Monkeys logo as well as individual character pictures from the monkeys in the logo. Part caricature, part cartoon, there is a little of each of the company’s original founding member’s personality in these characters. Cheeky- sometimes introspective artist, sometimes paint slinging graphics wiz. Howler- the management monkey, a bit playful, but all business. And Gorilla- the code monkey elite, our programming guru. Line art- Flash fill.

Jennie updated her Cheeky character for us to use in a trade show in 2004. The print is now framed and hanging on the wall at the Monkey's office- along with framed pics of Gorilla and Howler. Line art- Flash fill.

Is it real or is it Photoshop? It’s common for developers to want their website or advertising out there promoting for them before the actual project is finished. Millstone Condominiums had completed the structural work for their grand entrance when this original photo was taken, but the plantings to fill in the landscaping hadn’t been added yet. Photo manipulation to the rescue- 3 Monkeys added plants, trees and filled in the existing trees (it was very early spring). Also removed elements- such as power lines, orange road cones and construction tools and the stop sign, which was right in the middle of the view. The storage building behind the monuments was also erased and filled with background. The result is what looks like a photo of a completed entrance in bloom with spring trees and flowers that have been in place for years- giving the developers a chance to finish the project while showing potential buyers what it will look like when completed.

Digital Photo restoration by Shawn Weeks. Digital enhancements such as this can save old, faded, ripped and even water damaged photos- preserving what might be completely lost in a few years for future generations to treasure. If your grandmother likes to keep all her pictures in an old shoebox, you may have noticed more than a few family photos in this state.

Code monkeys, graphic monkeys and copy writing monkeys readily available.
